SEDGEFORD HISTORICAL  AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH PROJECT

SHARP OPEN DAY - SUNDAY 25TH JULY

By Pauline

Our annual Open Day was a huge success this year, in spite of the best efforts of the great British weather. Everybody enjoyed our new activities such as torc-la and coin stamping, as well as the normal children's activities like "sort the find", pot making and iron age face-painting. New for this year was also our Anglo-Saxon and Viking re-enactment Village where the combat demonstrations proved a massive hit.

Visitors had a chance to see archaeologists in action on the trenches, flotation demonstrations for the environmental sampling and some examples of skeletal pathology in the human remains cabin. All in all everybody had a fantastic day, and where the weather dampened spirits, diggers and visitors were cheered by local cakes and the old favourite "supervisors in the stocks"!

Many thanks to all our visitors, helpers, living historians and volunteers for  making the day such a success.
